Textile · Print · Surface Design

The print is the point of view.

Three decades designing the prints, knits, embroideries, and surfaces that give a collection its signature — from the first hand-painted mark to the finished garment, on the body and in the world.

Scroll

A designer who can do surface, structure, color, and graphic — and make each one feel inevitable.

Woven and yarn-dye. Knit and Fair Isle. Engineered placement prints, all-over prints, broderie and cutwork, embroidery, patchwork, and color. Researched, drawn, and merchandised season after season for the houses that set the tone.

About

Ron Garkey

Three decades of prints — denim, contemporary, Western, knitwear. Long enough inside each brand's aesthetic to know what a print needs to be before the brief arrives. That's the difference between a studio that submits and a designer they keep.

Sustainability has been part of the work for years. At J Brand it meant leading the initiative and reporting it directly to the Tokyo office.

A Tecovas print and a J Brand print are not the same animal. Neither is a Fair Isle and a placed floral. Adapting across aesthetics without losing the hand is the craft under all of it.
